Atalanta vs Roma

Gewiss Stadium sets the stage for a ‘make or break’ Serie A showdown between Atalanta and Roma.

After three consecutive league defeats between mid-March and early April, Atalanta have hit the ground running in Serie A, winning three of their last four matches (D1) to consolidate their pursuit of a first top-four finish since 2020/21. Despite their late renaissance, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men are no longer part of the Scudetto frame, yet they can secure Champions League qualification with two games to spare. A 5-0 rout of rock-bottom Monza in the previous round had set them up nicely for this contest as they seek a third successive top-flight win over Roma. Defensive resilience has been the secret ingredient behind Atalanta’s recent form resurgence, with their last six Serie A victories yielding clean sheets, including a 2-0 win over fellow top-half rivals Bologna on this ground.

Meanwhile, Roma will be confident of penetrating Atalanta’s rock-solid backline after finding the back of the net in 20 consecutive games across all competitions (W14, D4, L2). Claudio Ranieri’s charges are equally impressive on both ends of the pitch, with a narrow 1-0 triumph over Fiorentina last weekend meaning it’s been over 300 minutes of football since they last conceded a goal. Though only a point separates Roma from fourth-placed Juventus ahead of the kick-off, beating Atalanta could prove a tall order, considering they’ve failed to win any of their last seven H2Hs (D1, L4). Furthermore, ‘I Giallorossi’ have only won one away match against this starting this round in the upper half of the standings this season (D4, L3).
