Australia vs Indonesia

Sydney Football Stadium is the venue as Australia and Indonesia go head-to-head in a high-stakes FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Despite only losing once in the first seven rounds, Australia’s hopes of progressing from Group C remain up in the air, considering they already drew four matches (W1), including the last three in a row. The Socceroos shared the spoils with Bahrain in a goal-glutted 2-2 stalemate in their most recent qualifying fixture after breaking the deadlock in the first minute. Interestingly, Bahrain remains the only team to beat Australia on their home soil since October 2023 (W5, D1, L1). Another stalemate could be on the cards, as Australia’s last meeting with Indonesia ended 0-0, forming part of their five-game unbeaten H2H run (W3, D2).

Worryingly for Indonesia, they failed to get on the scoresheet in all five matches, which was the case in their last two internationals toward the end of 2024 (L1). Despite only winning one of their six Group C games (D3, L2), the visitors remain firmly in contention for a top-two finish as they sit only a point adrift of upcoming rivals Australia. However, taking three points in Sydney could be a tall order, given that they’ve failed to win any of their three away matches in the third qualifying stage (D2, L1), conceding precisely two goals on two occasions.
