Celta Vigo vs Las Palmas

Estadio de Balaidos sets the stage for a high-stakes La Liga clash between European hopefuls Celta Vigo and relegation-threatened Las Palmas.

A 1-0 away win against rock-bottom Real Valladolid right before the international break extended their unbeaten league run to six matches (W4, D2). That prolific sequence accounts for over a third of their points this season, propelling them into European contention. Yet, securing just a second top-half finish since 2015/16 seems a more realistic goal. With 29 of Celta’s 39 La Liga points this season coming at the Balaidos, they’re a force to be reckoned with at home, where they’ve lost just once in their last eight league games there (W6, D1). Only the top three have earned more home points pre-round, and Claudio Giraldez’s men will back themselves to build on that record as the only La Liga side to have scored in each of their last 11 matches.

Celta’s formidable home form spells trouble for visiting Las Palmas, whose disastrous winless run in 2025 now stands at 11 matches (D3, L8) after a 2-2 home draw against Deportivo Alaves before the international break. Embroiled in a dreaded relegation fight, Diego Martinez’s charges came into this round trailing 17th-placed Alavaes by two points. Therefore, defying their underwhelming return of five defeats from their last six meetings with Celta may be imperative for ‘Los Amarillos’ (W1), including a narrow 1-0 loss in October’s reverse fixture. Interestingly, 12 of Las Palmas’ last 13 matches against this opposition have seen both teams get on the scoresheet.
