Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa

A high-stakes Premier League midweek contest at Selhurst Park pits top-half hopefuls Crystal Palace and top-four bidders Aston Villa against each other.

Crystal Palace soared to 13th in the Premier League table after bouncing back from a 2-1 home defeat to Everton with a 2-0 victory against fellow London rivals Fulham. A top-half finish has become a distinct possibility for Oliver Glasner’s side, even though they’ve picked up half the points this season at home than they have on their travels (11/22). Furthermore, the Eagles have avoided defeat in nine of their last 11 outings across all competitions (W7, D2), with both losses arriving in their two most recent fixtures at Selhurst Park. However, Palace can draw confidence from winning four of their last five Tuesday-held Premier League matches (L1) as they bid to post a third consecutive unbeaten top-flight encounter against Aston Villa (W1, D1).

On the other hand, the visitors overturned an early deficit to beat Chelsea 2-1 at home last weekend, halting an uneventful five-game winless run in the Premier League to three matches (D4, L1). As a result, they’ve closed the gap on fourth-placed Manchester City to two points, but leaving Birmingham could potentially spell trouble for Unai Emery’s charges. Indeed, they’ve suffered six defeats on their last eight Premier League road trips (W1, D1), with five coming via multi-goal margins, including a 2-0 loss at bottom-half Wolverhampton a fortnight ago. Worryingly, Villa’s recent visits to Selhurst Park have been a nightmare as they’ve lost five out of their last six top-flight away H2Hs (W1).
