Gangwon vs Anyang
Chuncheon Songam Stadium sets the stage for a bottom-half K League 1 encounter between Gangwon and Anyang.
Gangwon bounced back from consecutive league matches without winning (D1, L1) with a narrow 1-0 triumph at Gwangju, whittling down the gap to the playoff terrain to only a point. Next on the menu is a first-ever top-flight home meeting with Anyang, a side they lost 2-0 against in April’s reverse fixture. However, they’ve beaten this opposition in three successive home H2Hs in lower divisions, with each victory yielding a three-goal margin. Therefore, Chung Kyung-ho’s side should feel confident about posting back-to-back league wins for only the second time this season. Yet, a three-match winless K League 1 streak on home turf doesn’t bode well (D2, L1), especially considering Gangwon failed to get on the scoresheet twice in that sequence.
In the meantime, Anyang’s rotten patch continued with a 2-0 home loss to Pohang Steelers last time out, extending their losing streak to three matches in all competitions. Those defeats form part of a more ominous six-game winless run (D2, L4), with Ryu Byeong-hoon’s charges conceding precisely two goals on five occasions. As if that’s not concerning enough, the visitors have lost their last three away league outings via an aggregate score of 6-2! Despite those setbacks, they head into proceedings only four points adrift of the final playoff spot and two short of their upcoming rivals, Gangwon.
