Las Palmas vs Villarreal

The stakes are high for La Liga relegation fighters Las Palmas ahead of Villarreal’s visit to Estadio de Gran Canaria this weekend.

Las Palmas’ hopeless attempt to end a severe crisis in 2025 hit another brick wall last week as a 2-1 defeat at Girona maintained their dreadful league run this calendar year (D1, L3). With the pressure mounting on manager Diego Martinez, ‘Los Amarillos’ are inching ever closer to the bottom three, harboring an unconvincing two-point lead on 18th-placed Alaves ahead of this round. The impending return to Estadio de Gran Canaria can’t offer much comfort, considering only Valladolid (12) have accumulated fewer home points than Las Palmas’ 13 this La Liga campaign (W3, D4, L4). If there’s an upside, it’s a 3-0 win in this corresponding fixture last term. However, they’ve failed to win any of their four home league games as betting outsiders this season (D2, L2).

On the other hand, Villarreal’s pursuit of a long-awaited Champions League return is firmly on track after a 5-1 thrashing of Valladolid last weekend left them within touching distance of fourth-placed Athletic Bilbao. Marcelino Garcia Toral’s free-firing squad has bagged 4+ goals in three of their last five league outings, underscoring the potential to build on a commanding 3-1 home win in this season’s reverse fixture. However, the visitors have been notoriously inconsistent on the road, registering just one win across their last five La Liga travels (D2, L2). Furthermore, they’ve failed to score more than once in three of the most recent four, meaning another emphatic scoreline is anything but a foregone conclusion.
