Napoli vs Genoa

Stadio Diego Armando Maradona is the venue as Serie A leaders Napoli and bottom-half Genoa square off in contrasting spirits.

Napoli squeezed past bottom-half Lecce 1-0 last weekend to keep hold of a three-point lead over second-placed Inter Milan head into the season finale. It was Napoli’s fourth consecutive league victory ‘to nil,’ meaning they could now post five successive top-flight wins without conceding for the first time in club history. That’s a distinct possibility, considering Antonio Conte’s men have kept a league-high 17 clean sheets this season. Furthermore, their final three Serie A matches pit them against teams starting this round in the bottom half of the table. ‘I Partenopei’ boast a dominant record in such fixtures (W14, D2, L1), with 11 of those 14 wins coming with a clean sheet. As if that’s not encouraging enough, the hosts haven’t lost any of their last nine home league outings (W7, D2).

Meanwhile, Genoa wasted a second-half lead in a 2-1 home defeat to AC Milan earlier this week, stretching their winless Serie A run to four (D1, L3). That underwhelming sequence includes three defeats on the trot against teams starting this matchday in the upper half of the standings. Therefore, Patrick Vieira’s men head into proceedings on a dreadful 17-game winless streak against current top-half clubs (D5, L2), highlighting the scale of the task ahead. Defying that poor run would increase Genoa’s hopes of securing a first top-half finish in Serie A since 2014/15. However, the Griffins have yet to win on the road in 2025 (D4, L5) while failing to find the net on their last three Serie A trips.
