Seoul vs Suwon

Seoul’s pursuit of a coveted sixth place in the K League 1 continues at the Seoul World Cup Stadium against resurgent Suwon FC.

Buoyed by a 2-1 cup win over lower-league Daejeon Korail, Seoul squeezed past top-flight basement boys Daegu 1-0 in their last league outing to return to winning ways after seven winless matches (D4, L3). However, it was another low-scoring contest produced by Jesse Lingard and his teammates, whose last five league matches have featured under 2.5 goals. Furthermore, four of those five games saw one or both teams fail to score in fixtures garnering under 1.5 goals, highlighting the potential for an uneventful meeting. Therefore, drawing first blood could prove crucial, not least because four of Seoul’s last five encounters against Suwon have seen the winner on the day keep a clean sheet (W4, D1), with two of the most recent three yielding an identical 1-0 scoreline.

In the meantime, Suwon put pre-round leaders Daejeon to the sword in their last league game, winning 3-0 on home turf to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat at Pohang Steelers. The visitors have gained a foothold in the K League 1 after an embarrassing 11-game start (W1, D5, L5), winning twice in their last three league matches (L1). However, they still lag eight points behind the playoff pace, largely thanks to their dreadful away record. Indeed, Kim Eun-jung’s charges have failed to win all seven league fixtures on the road this term (D2, L5), netting a league-low two away goals in the process! They’ve ominously failed to score in four of their last five top-flight matches on hostile turf.
