Sevilla vs Mallorca

Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan forms the backdrop for a crunch La Liga meeting between Sevilla and Mallorca.

Sevilla received a timely confidence boost ahead of this fixture as they humbled Real Valladolid 4-0 on the road last weekend, netting 4+ goals in away La Liga action for the first time since April 2021. As a result, the Andalusian outfit can record back-to-back league victories for the first time since April last year and potentially take a crucial step to re-establishing themselves as European contenders. Indeed, Garcia Pimienta’s charges trail sixth-placed Rayo Vallecano by only four points before the kick-off despite only winning once in their last four league games (D2, L1). The impending return to the Pizjuan can’t inspire much confidence, considering ‘Los Rojiblancos’ have emerged victorious from one of their last five home league matches (D3, L1), netting precisely once on each occasion.

In the meantime, Mallorca pulled off a crucial 3-1 home triumph against relegation-battling Las Palmas last weekend to end a rotten patch that had seen them lose five of their previous six competitive outings (D1). However, consecutive away league defeats by 2+ goals ‘to nil’ hardly bode well for the visitors’ bid to haul back a one-point gap to the European qualifying spots. Therefore, Jagoba Arrasate’s men are staring down the barrel of three away league losses on the trot for the first time since November 2023. Furthermore, ‘Los Piratas’ have lost five of their last six La Liga visits to Sevilla (D1), failing to get on the scoresheet in three of the most recent four.
