Werder Bremen vs RB Leipzig

Weserstadion sets the stage for a high-stakes Bundesliga encounter between Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig. 

Werder Bremen wasted a two-goal cushion in a 2-2 draw against Union Berlin last weekend but still amassed more points than they had in 12 of their previous 13 Bundesliga campaigns to stay within striking distance of the top six. Unbeaten across their last six league outings (W4, D2), Ole Werner’s men trail sixth-placed RB Leipzig by three points ahead of the kick-off, highlighting the importance of beating the Red Bull outfit in this European six-pointer. However, home advantage has not always made the difference for Werder this season, considering only 20 of their 47 top-flight points came at the Weserstadion. Still, they’ve racked up three consecutive clean sheets on this ground (W2, D1), though two came against teams from the bottom half of the table. 

On the other hand, Leipzig squandered a 2-0 lead in a spectacular 3-3 home draw against runaway leaders Bayern Munich last weekend, extending their winless league streak to three games (D2, L1). As a result, they’re at risk of missing out on Champions League qualification for only the second time since earning promotion in 2016/17, with two points separating them from fourth-placed Freiburg ahead of the final two rounds. Zsolt Low’s men must improve their road form to navigate this troubled waters after only winning one of their last 11 away matches (D4, L6). Facing Werder should help them get back on track, considering they have won 11 of the past 16 H2Hs in all competitions at any venue (D3, L2).
